A diorama of trench warfare high in the sow covered mountains.
Artistically this is more of a fable about mountain warfare than a realistic depiction. Capturing elements like the Maxim Machine Gun, Barbed wire lines, Wooden boards, and the impact of artillery close calls.
The flag was never finished, but given the use of Maxim guns by all sides during trench warfare, the viewer can fill in the gaps.
I was inspired to start this peice after a trip to the War Museum in Ottawa Canada. There they have a fully recreated trench you cna walk through, as well as many Maxim Guns I could Use as reference. The snow was inspired by stories of ice fortresses in the Alps during WW1.
For the models I went extremely low-poly, originally intending for this to be viewable on 2018 phone base web viewers like sketchfab.
