I upgrade an existing 3rd party canoe asset that the team had acquired.
I began by optimizing the mesh for VR, then adding the details form our narrative. As a sole survivior we needed the player to paddle form the center, I added scarped cushioning for the player to be grounded in the center.
Once the model met our needs I textured it in Substnace Designer, and Substance Painter to create a very dirty and weathered arctic canoe.
We wanted that durability to be communicated in the proportions and the texture details of the canoe.
